Kindergarten Information
Folder--Students
should bring their folder each day. Please
send information or notes to school in the folder and check the folder for
information from school.
Backpacks--Students
should bring their backpacks daily.
Shoes--Students
need a pair of tennis shoes for P.E. These
will be left at school.
Outdoor
Clothing--Students
should be dressed properly according to weather conditions.
Please label all items.
School
Supplies--Students
should have their own school supplies.
Absences--Please
call the school office if your child will be absent or will not be riding the
bus.
Change
in Your Child's Going Home Routine--We must have a note for any departure from the usual routine.
If your child is going home with a friend on a bus, please send two
notes--one for the driver and one for the teacher.
We will NOT put a child on a different bus without a note or phone call
from home. If a different adult is
picking your child up from school, we must also have a note or a phone call.
This is for your child's safety.
Snacks--The
school kitchen provides a simple snack for afternoon milk break.
If you would like to donate a box or package of goodies, it would be
appreciated.
Parties--We
have four celebrations during the year: Halloween, Christmas, Valentine's Day,
and our Reading Party. Please let me
know if you would like to help with a party.
Lost
Items and Labeling--Please,
please, please put names on clothing or other items that are brought to school.
You would be amazed at the clothing that is "not mine"!
All unclaimed items are put in the "Lost and Found" barrel in
the main hallway. Thank you!
Visiting--If
you wish to visit, we suggest that you wait until a few weeks after school
begins to visit. Children are often
excited when they begin school and need this time to settle in.
It is appreciated if you let the teacher know at least the day before you
are planning to visit. Parents often
enjoy visiting around lunchtime so that they can join their child for lunch.
The teacher can inform the kitchen staff that you will be eating in the
lunchroom the following day. Parents
usually enjoy reading a story to the class after lunch before the children have
noon
recess.
Before coming into the classroom, please stop by the office to inform
them that you are a visitor in our classroom that day.
Book
Orders--We
receive book order flyers from various book companies.
These contain books or games, which are geared toward the kindergarten
level. If you wish to purchase items
from these flyers, please return the order form and money or check to me in an
envelope with your child's name and the words Book Order on it.
Put this in your child's folder, and I will check for it.
Birthdays--Children
may bring treats for the class on their birthday.
If you are having a party for your child, please take care of
invitations, etc., outside of school.
Conferences--Two
conferences are scheduled during the year for all students.
They are held in October and February, usually from
4 P.M.
to
9 P.M.
If
there is a time that you prefer to have your conference, please let me know
before the schedule is set up. Additional
conferences may be requested any time should the need arise.
Sharing
Time--Our
class will have a Sharing Time (Show & Tell) on Fridays.
This will be a time that your child may share an educational item from
home such as something he/she made or drew; an item that was found--a rock or
bird's nest, etc.; or pictures of places he/she may have visited.
Please do not bring toys.
Toys--We
ask that the children not bring toys to school.
The children feel sad if the toy gets lost or broken.
We have toys at school.
Library--We
go to the library each week. The
children listen to a story in the library and then check out books and/or
videos. They should also return
previously checked out books/videos on this day.
Portfolios--Samples
of student work are kept in a portfolio that is sent home at the end of the
year. These samples help show
student progress through the year.
Homework--The
Family Times booklet
should be completed weekly; math daily worksheets often have a parent
involvement activity included; a Bubblope activity will be sent home monthly;
and a Reading Race sheet should be completed and returned monthly.
Thank you for
your help and cooperation to make this a great year!
